For those of you that have been clamoring for a college football playoff, you've got your wish. Sort of. This week Georgia Tech and Miami will play a critical game Thursday night that will go a long way in determining who will represent the Coastal Division in the ACC title game. The Clemson Tigers and Cavaliers will face-off with bowl positions, and in the case of the Cavaliers, a possible shot at the ACC title on the proverbial line.
After a much-needed week off, the Virginia Cavaliers look to get back on the winning track this Saturday when they face the Clemson Tigers. Both teams are 5-5 with hopes of becoming bowl eligible by season's end. The Cavs will have their hands full this weekend trying to contain the Tigers' spread offense. One element that has been successful for the Tigers at times is their ability to execute the bubble screen.
Deep Run (Glen Allen, VA) turned in a fantastic 2008 season with nine wins to just one loss, led by top senior prospects Antone Exum, Jordan Love and Virginia defensive end recruit Jake Snyder. Head coach Greg Kendall would have a tough time finding three prospects as talented as those three in next year's class, but he knows he has at least one likely 1A recruit.
The Virginia men's basketball team opened its season with a 107-97 victory against VMI on Sunday. Several players put up impressive statistics in the high-paced game, including freshman Sylven Landesberg and sophomore Mike Scott. Sammy Zeglinksi, Mamadi Diane, and Jamil Tucker all scored in double figures as well. Relive the exciting action from the game with this 85-image photo gallery!
As one might expect from two 5-5 football teams, Virginia and Clemson have experienced an up-and-down ride this season. The Cavaliers opened 1-3 before winning four straight games and now they've lost two in a row. The Tigers opened the season ranked in the top 10 before losing a lopsided contest to Alabama in the first game. Since then, they've had a winning streak of three games and a losing streak of three games.
Now, both teams are trying to finish on the upswing with an eye on bowl eligibility.
